“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your heavenly father forgive your trespasses”
od uses you forgiveness scale to measure out forgiveness to you. The more forgiving you are, the more forgiveness you find before God. The more judgemental you are, the more you’ll be judged. Unforgiveness is a chain that holds two or more people in bondage – the offender(s) and the offended. Nobody makes progress. The law of seed time and harvest works against the offender, nemesis catches up with him. The offended is in the sin of rebellion. Why rebellion? God said vengeance is mine and I will repay. So if you don’t let go but try to get even with those who offended you, you are trying to wear God’s shoes. Not only is it oversize, you are also in rebellion to His authority.
God’s Word says: “If ye forgive men not their trespasses neither will your father forgive your trespasses.” So get the key, unlock that chain and let it go – so that you can be free, as well as your captives. Unforgiveness is like a weight carried by an athlete. It does not only slow him down in the race of life, it drags him down as well. “…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1).” Messages condemning sin are very popular, but not much is said about “weight”. Unforgiveness is a weight! It slows you down.
You may say, “if only you know what that person did to me!” that may be true, but the question is: do you know what unforgiveness will do to you? Well, you’ve just found out. What really matters is what happens in us not what happens to us. . Unforgiveness does not hurt your enemy as much as it hurts you. It’s like you drinking a poison and expecting someone else to fall down and die. Unforgiveness beget bitterness, and bitterness contaminates the well spring of your joy like water with dregs. Bitterness is a deadly misuse of creativity flow from above.
Great amount of mental energy and brain power are used up to “get even”. This kind of thinking leaves you unproductive. So, forgive for your own sake. The best place you can be selfish is the place of forgiveness. When you do that, you free yourself. Never underestimate the power of forgiveness to loose and free you to accomplish your goal and fulfil your calling. Forgiveness is the power you have over a person who slandered, criticized, or offended you. When you forgive you show the offender that you are stronger than him/her. Get some wind on your wings and fly. Just forgive and free yourself.
